Why Is My Ice Maker Not Making Ice?

Start with the water supply

The single most common reason an ice maker stops producing is an interrupted water supply — often a clogged or overdue water filter, a frozen section of water line (common in colder spots like an unheated garage), or a kinked line behind the fridge. Before assuming the ice maker itself has failed, checking whether water is actually reaching it is the logical first step.

When it's the ice maker module itself

If water supply checks out fine but the ice maker still isn't cycling, the issue often points to the ice maker module — the motor and mechanism that fills the tray, freezes it, and ejects the cubes. Signs this is the case include an ice maker that's silent (no cycling sound at all) versus one that cycles and makes noise but never actually fills with water.
